Maids legends looking to roll back years in Vets game with French side VDQS

Former Maidenhead RFC players will be looking to roll back the years when they take on French side VDQS in a legends game at Braywick Park on Saturday. VDQS, an amateur team from Paris, are travelling over to cheer on their countrymen in the England vs France Six Nations clash at Twickenham on Sunday.

But before they do so they’ve agreed to take part in a veterans clash with a Maids’ XI captained by club stalwart Piers Morgan. The game will get underway from 1pm.

Maids have managed to pull together a squad of around 30 players – spanning 40 seasons – with the likes of Alan Greene, Simon Cripps, James Emmanuel, Rob Hawkins, Paul Jones, Ritchie Craig and John Wanklyn all set to feature. The home team will be managed by Rene Dance.

“I have been really pleased with the commitment from many ex-players who have put their hands up to dust off their boots,” said Piers.

“The oxygen tanks have been booked and it will certainly be rolling substitutions through the game. All supporters are urged to support and join in what should be a special occasion.”

Claires Court pupil Max Keller has been selected to represent the RFU’s South West side at the England Counties u18s tournament next month.

The Maidenhead RFC colt has made the 23-man squad for the competition. Fellow Maids players Matt Dalrymple, of Shiplake College, and Charlie Scott, of Henley College, have also made the team. Maids’ Rhys Harper is one of five reserves for the squad.

Claires Court School tweeted: “Congratulations to Max in Year 12 for his selection to the RFU South West rugby team.”
