Threatening skies failed to dampen any competitive spirits at the return of the summer Cracker Challenge.

The Advertiser’s fundraising event saw 10 teams from companies within the Royal Borough battle it out in five different sports to take home the trophy and be crowned champions.

This year it was the turn of the Lane Floored ‘Em from Lane4 to be Cracker Challenge winners.

They racked up 20 points from playing football, rounders, netball, volleyball and Nerf wars. The Advertiser team were gracious hosts and allowed the guests to take the podium positions this time.

Julia Padget, who captained the winning team, said: “We’ve taken part in the Cracker Challenge for a number of years now and it’s always a lot of fun.

“Not only does this event help to get the Lane4 team together, but it simultaneously helps to support a great local charity.

“Winning the competition was obviously a bonus, and it’s given me and my team fantastic bragging rights across the business.”

Shanly Homes, the Royal Borough, SportsAble, Pythagoras, Purple Patch Running, Lane4 and the Magnet Leisure Centre all entered teams to the competition.

A total of £1,200 was raised from the event, from both through entry costs and the raffle after the contest.

The money will be donated to the Advertiser Cracker Appeal, which provides Christmas lunches and parties for community groups within the area.

The paper would like to thank companies that donated prizes for the raffle, especially, Avinu, that gave the star prize of outdoor speakers worth more than £400.

The Cracker Challenge will return in December with an indoor mix of sporty challenges followed by a quiz.

Dates for the event have not been set.
