Desborough Bowling Club holds training camp for England's elite squad

Desborough Bowling Club held a two-day training camp for Bowls England’s elite squad over the weekend.

Bowls England used the Green Lane base – now one of the finest centres in the country – in preparation for their next two international matches.

Some of the country’s best players took part including Nicki Brett, Ellen Falkner, Jamie Walker and Sian Gordon.

England’s elite high performance squad were playing for their places in the men’s and women’s teams for the forthcoming World Championships, to be held in Australia later this year.

The intensive training and selection camp was led by Bowls England’s director John McGuinnes and supported by a team of Bowl England assessors.

Despite winning on three of the rinks Desborough’s A team were beaten 136-124 by Ad Finem BA at home on Wednesday last week.

Top rink for Desborough was that of M Pelling, P Hatch, D McDonald and skip Ralph Hatch, who were 25-10 winners, but the club went down by 12 shots overall.
