Maidenhead Boys and Girls u14s go out with a bang in cup competitions

Maidenhead Boys & Girls u14s may have played their last competitive matches of the season, but if so they went out with a bang by reaching the finals of both the league and county cups.

With youth football set to be severely curtailed by the coronavirus over the coming weeks it looks likely that all youth football leagues and competitions will be cancelled.

In the Berkshire County Girls Football League semi-final last weekend, goals from Becky Tinnelly and Emily McMaster handed the u14s an impressive win over Tilehurst Panthers.

Seven days previously the u14s girls made it through to the final of the Berks & Bucks County Cup, but they needed a penalty shoot out to do so.

Becky Tinnelly and Rebecca Hesketh (two) scored in normal time, but Emily McMaster was the hero, saving three spot kicks in the shootout.

Elsewhere the u18s Anacondas were 2-0 winners away at Marlow United Pumas in Division 3.

The u16s boys also tasted victory on the road, beating Finchampstead Wanderers 4-2 away.

There were home defeats for the u15s Cobras, 2-0 against Sandhurst Town Royals, and the u14s Colts, 1-0 to Sandhurst Town Boys. The u12s Panthers nine-a-side team drew 4-4 away at Pinewood Predators with Harry McGill (two), Callum Neeson-Roberts and Senna Anagho.

The u12s Dolphins lost 1-0 to second placed Wokingham & Emmbrook Sumas, but finish the season with a 10 point advantage over their closest rivals.

The u12s Foxes beat the Henley Lions Whites 2-0, leaving them fourth in Division 2 while the u12s Sharks were 4-1 winners against Caversham AFC Harriers and will finish the campaign on top.

Finally the u18s Girls Blue Sox signed off their season with an 8-0 home win over Wargrave Girls. They completed their 12 game season with 12 wins and a goal difference of plus 88. Jess Welch (three), Chloe Bagshaw (two), Hollie O’Neill, Olivia Brienza and Amelia Gilbert were on target against Wargrave.
