Thames Valley Premier League round-up: Marlow slump to defeat while Maidenhead stay unbeaten

03:55PM, Tuesday 13 October 2020

Marlow United slumped to defeat against Wraysbury Village in a six-goal encounter at the Memorial Ground on Saturday afternoon.

In their first match since re-joining the Thames Valley Premier League, the Flying Blues were grounded 4-2 with Neil Austin scoring both of United’s goals.

Marlow were tasked to play a large part of the game with a man down as George Goode was shown a straight red card on the 37th minute.

But with 10 of the starting 11 tasting their first ever fixture of step seven, Matt Letts’ new look United side came away from the match a little bruised but a lot wiser.

They will look to go again this weekend against Woodley United at home.

Cookham Dean endured similar luck in their game against Finchampstead as they succumbed to a 2-0 loss at the Memorial Park.

Richie Dow and Jack Lewis scored the goals for Finch who have scored four goals from four different goalscorers so far this season.

The result leaves Dean at the bottom of the table without any points from their two opening games.

They play Wraysbury Village on Saturday.

--

Maidenhead Town remain unbeaten in the division as they followed up their opening day draw with a 3-1 win over Woodley United Royals at Bisham Abbey.

Aleks Yankov, Ryan Adams and Duarte Surpanu were all on the scoresheet for Town.

They host Finchampstead this weekend who are level on points and goal difference in the division.

--

Westwood Wanderers are the only club in the league to have played and won both of their games so far this campaign.

A 2-1 victory over Reading City u23s, with goals from Callum McCulloch and Alex Sergent, establishes Wanderers as the early table toppers in the division.

The Wanderers will host Richings Park this Saturday while Reading City u23s welcome Berks County.

--

Mortimer were happy to share the spoils in a 2-2 draw with local rivals Newbury at the Alfred Palmer Memorial Ground.

A brace of penalties from Danny Langford wasn’t enough for Newbury as the hosts’ Chace Jewell and Dan Greenwood ensured they wouldn’t finish the game empty handed.

Mortimer travel to Burghfield next while Newbury host Windlesham and Chobham.

--

Berks County secured a 4-2 victory against Richings Park in their first game of the new season.

Goals from Ebby Opuko-Ware, John Swift, and a double from Leslie Sackey handed County all three points to kick-start the campaign with.

Aaron Jones and James Wards scored the only goals for Park.

--

Burghfield stole a 1-0 win at Windlesham and Chobham on Saturday as Lewis Butcher scored the only goal of the game.
