Phoenix and Slough RFC U16s enjoyed a productive tour in Holland, winning two of their three matches against strong local outfits

Phoenix and Slough got off to the perfect start in their first match against Arnhem, taking the lead after Jack Holdaway converted a slick try from Ollie Moore. Arnhem’s number 8 caused problems throughout the match for the visitors, but another try from Moore stretched the lead to 12 points, before Aiden Kelly ran in from 60m to score under the posts. Arnhem weren’t to be denied, as they got on the socre board before the break, making the score 17-7 to Phoenix and Slough.

The second half saw more of the same, and an early try from Luke Bishop was followed by Moore completing his hat-trick before Alfie Spiller rounded off a 32-14 win.

The next match saw the long awaited reverse fixture between Phoenix and Nijmengen – after last years match saw Phoenix and Slough come out with a 10-5 win. Due to the hot weather, the game was split into three thirds, of which all were closely contested – but a late flurry from the hosts saw them come out 26-17 winners – Jermaine Bennett, Dan Malloy and Kian Dent the Phoenix scorers.

The final game of the tour came against Betuwe and a strong performance from the visitors saw Phoenix and Slough end their tour of the Netherlands with a classy 44-12 win.
