Slough RFC chairman says membership subs and donations have helped keep the club afloat

Slough rugby club chairman Ray Gagnon has thanked members for their continued payment of membership, subs and donations, giving the club an income to see it through these challenging times.

Gagnon said that the club relies on the money to stay afloat as the Greenies still have regular bills to pay despite the clubhouse being closed and operations having been halted for some time. He added that sadly it looked like the club would not get back to playing and socialising until next season.

In his new year’s message, he wrote: “Just a quick note to wish you all a very happy New Year and to thank those of you who are continuing to pay your membership, playing subs and donations. I do realise that times are getting hard and that you may be thinking is it worth it, I can only leave that for you to answer.

“Personally, I believe it is worth it because I have found friendship that I never expected nor experienced before and the club is an institution which I hope will go on for many more years to come and I for one am proud to be a part of it, albeit I never played the game.

“However, for the club to stay afloat it does rely on your subscription/donation as we still have regular bills that have to be paid despite the club being closed and I would ask that you continue with your payments to help to keep the pressure off.

“Sadly, there is every probability that we will not get back to socialising or normal activities until next season, also there are no Six Nations nor Autumn International tickets available, which doesn't help either.

“Yes, this is a begging letter of sorts; but it is also a reminder that although our heads are above water at present your help is required to keep your club from going under.

“I should like to take this opportunity to thank you and wish you and your families all the very best for 2021, please stay safe and hopefully we will all get through these trying times safely.

“I look forwards to seeing you at the club, hopefully before the next season starts.”
