Flackwell boss Richardson not yet willing to contemplate 'the unthinkable'

Marcus Richardson has said it’s unthinkable for him to contemplate the possibility of Flackwell Heath not being able to fulfil their league fixtures and compete for promotion.

With the region having been placed under tier 4 restrictions the Hellenic Premier League has been temporarily halted and – with Government ministers claiming the country might be under tighter restrictions for some time to come - there’s now a real possibility the league season could once again be declared null and void. For the time being Flackwell’s players and management team aren’t able to train or play matches and Richardson said he’d be lost for words if the opportunity to compete for the title and promotion to step four was taken away from him.

“We’re now not allowed to do anything together again,” said Richardson. “No matches or training for the time being, but I’ve got a great bunch of lads and the work will continue behind the scenes. They want to show what they can do this season and it’s inspiring to watch. They’re showing great togetherness and a maturity that’s beyond their years.

“I’d be the most gutted person in the world (if the league had to be declared null and void). It would be so cruel. I hope they’ve got some sort of contingency plan for this because we knew earlier in the year that we’d probably have more lockdowns.

I think they’ll have to finish the season off, whether it’s later than normal, but please don’t talk to me about the unthinkable. Because that’s what it is to me.

“If that was taken away from me and my lads at this time I’d be lost for words.”
