Marlow RFC chairman Jez Povey has given supporters an update on the club’s plans to put in new posts for the four pitches at Riverwoods.

Club members had raised enough money over the past 12 months to install the new posts, however, as a result of coronavirus and the negative cash flow Marlow is experiencing, the club finds itself short of funds to complete the project.

It needs to raise an additional £9,000, with the aim of showing that ‘Riverwoods is truly ready for the new season and is able to demonstrate the strength and resilience of the club’.

“We are now short of funds to complete the project,” said the chairman. “For the removal and safe disposal of the old posts and installation of the new ones.

“A number of members and supporters have commented that the process to register a donation is overly complicated through the club website, so in parallel we have set up a crowdfunding page on Justgiving to ensure that everyone that wants to ‘pitch in’ and support out fundraising effort can do so simply.

“The cost of installation has been meticulously researched and planned and requires the services of a specialist team that can install the new posts with the expertise to ensure that they stand the test of time. We have opted for the latest design that are hinged at the base for easy ‘off season’ maintenance with a view that this will also extend the life of this major investment.

“We realise that many people are already under financial pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic, and that this may not be the ideal time in any of our lives to be raising money, so please be assured that any donation, however small, will take us to our target and will make a major difference.”
