Thames Valley Development League

The wet and windy weather led to many cancellations in the Thames Valley Youth Football Development League this weekend.

An impressive second half display saw Maidenhead United Juniors Blades u14s beat Chesham United Youth Spartans 3-2 on the astroturf at Cox Green.

The sides were tied at 1-1 after an evenly matched first half, but the Blades surged clear with two goals in the second half before Chesham grabbed a late consolation.

In the first batch of u11s development games the S4K Wolves beat the Explorers Blues 5-2 and Cookham Dean Dynamos beat the FC Cippenham Panthers 2-0 at home. Cookham’s other u11s side played out a goalless draw with Burnham Juniors Lynx Blue while the Marish Wizards Whites defeated Harefield United Youth 7-5 in a high-scoring game.

Of the u12s matches that survived the poor weather, Slough Town Juniors edged out Burnham Junior Sabres Yellow 1-0 in Division 1 and Singh Sabha enjoyed a 2-1 away win at Harefield United Youth.

Only one game was possible in Division 1 with Berkshire Elite beating Chalfont Saints United 4-2.

Two Division 3 matches went ahead with Frontline overcoming Maidenhead Warriors 9-5 and FC Cippenham Leopards beating the Golden Eagles Flyers 3-1.

Maidenhead United Juniors

Many games were lost to the foul weather last weekend but there were goals galore in the matches that were on, with Maidenhead United Juniors sides showing that they were ‘Up For The Cup’!

There was a Trophy match for Under 8s Blacks in challenging weather conditions. Coach Georgina beamed: “The boys are really starting to put into practise what they are learning in training, there were some lovely passes and heads were up reading the game and anticipating the next move. 5 boys on the score board this week with a clean sheet against Shinfield. Well done to all, fabulous game!”

U9 Blacks visited AFC Charvil in the Cup. In a competitive first half Blacks restricted Charvil to a half-chances and despite having most of the ball were unable to make the breakthrough. Early in the 2nd half, a move starting from Adam at the back saw Lachlan produce a dangerous cross which Bobby converted for his first of the season. Shortly after, a fine first touch from Lachlan took him past the last defender allowing him to finish into the corner. POTM went to Hayden who put in a very solid performance.

U10 Diamonds had a high scoring cup tie with Eldon Celtic. The team had a slow start as Eldon came out of the blocks in Q1. However, as the game went on Diamonds found balance and flow, created plenty of chances and by half time and throughout the second half it was a pretty even affair. POTM went to Aiden for a hard-earned hat-trick against the best defence in Section A.
