Desborough Bowls Club’s outdoor season may well have been cut short by the coronavirus pandemic, but they did manage to squeeze in some friendly matches and inter club competitions. More than 200 entrants have taken part in 11 different singles, pairs and team competitions and, although no cups were handed out to the winners, some prize money was on offer.

This summer the men’s and ladies’ champions were Bruce Adams and Gina Braddock.

The outdoor green is now closed, but indoor matches were set to resume from Tuesday, September 1, after protocols were put in place by the club to keep its members safe. These include temperature checks on arrival and stewards to ensure members were compliant with hand sanitisation and social distancing measures.

“We realise this will not be easy but believe everything is in place for what we hope will be an enjoyable occasion and a fantastic place to bowl.

“We now look forward to as many members as possible returning,” said Roger Wyatt, the club’s general secretary.
