Slough RFC in 'best possible position' to return to action, says chairman

Slough RFC chairman Mark Casey believes the club has put itself in the best possible position to return to action when the coronavirus measures are fully lifted.

The club is in regular communication with both the RFU and Bucks RFU and has been following it’s advice to ensure the club is able to get back on its feet for the start of a new season.

Members have been kept updated on social media and on Zoom calls and the positive news is that, while the Greenies have suffered from the closure back in March, it remains in ‘good financial shape’. The clubhouse has also been secured and the pitches are being maintained for when players are able to return to the turf.

“We have been in regular communication with both the RFU and the Bucks RFU and have been following advice and sharing our experiences so that the club, and all our members, are in the best possible shape when we can get back to doing what we love best; playing and watching rugby,” said Casey.

“Despite the loss of revenue the club has suffered by closing early in March and having no social events planned as we go into the summer period, we are in good financial shape. The hard work put in by the players, the coaching and backroom staff, the committee and all the volunteers in the last two years means that the club is running as smoothly as possible in the circumstances.

“The clubhouse is secure, and the pitches are being maintained well and I know that there are many players and spectators who can’t wait to get on that turf again. That time will come, and we can all watch real-life grassroots rugby at Slough RFC.

“For me that day cannot come too soon. And what a day it will be when the doors to the changing rooms are unlocked and the shutters roll up on the bar again.”
