Maidenhead B&G FC

Maidenhead Boys & Girls u9s girls team played their first ever Berkshire County Girls Football League match at the weekend, drawing 2-2 with the Thatcham Tornados.

The side, who are fielding players as young as seven, clearly learned a lot from their first encounter as they went on to beat Wargrave Tigers 1-0 in their second match.

Elsewhere Maidenhead B&G FC u18s Santos lost 4-0 away to the Teddington Athletic Sharks, but the u17s Boys side won their Division 2 match 2-1 at home to Westwood Wanderers Green. The u16s Cobras were also winners this weekend, beating Wokingham & Emmbrook Oranges 3-2 away from home in Division 4.

The u15s Colts led their Division 6 clash against Twyford Comets Reds through Ben Thompson’s goal, but outnumbered throughout, they were eventually overwhelmed 14-1. Six of the team were unavailable to the coach but the side still showed great character, with Andrew Moraes named player of the match.

There was a big win for the u13s Panthers, who beat Burghfield Buffalos 6-0 away from home in EBFA Section G. The breakthrough came from Harry James, assisted by Rowan Sellman, and two goals just before the break from Harry McGill and Sellman swung the game in their favour. Callum Neeson-Roberts got the fourth with a thumping shot from outside the box and two more from McGill soon after put the gloss on the scoreline. Player of the match was shared between centre half Harry Willett and Harry McGill.

The u12s Dragons lost their Division 2 cup clash 4-1 to the Whiteknights Blues while the u12s Jaguars got the better of Woodley United Cyclones 3-2 in their Division 3 cup match.

Molly Cann equalised as the u12s girls earned a 1-1 draw at home to Tilehurst Panthers Reds in Division 1 while the u13s Girls were 8-0 winners away to Burnham Juniors. Charlotte Hesketh, Lizzy Ainscough, Khadeeja Javed, Lizzy Ainscough, Amy Martin, Ellie Godleman, Lucy Coughtrey, Lucy Coughtrey were the goalscorers.

There was also a big 7-3 away win for the u15s girls at Didcot Casuals. Emily McMaster, Becky Tinnelly (three), Rebecca Hesketh, Lily May Shepherd and Hattie Parkinson were the scorers.

Maidenhead United Juniors

Maidenhead United Juniors u10s sides very much enjoyed their football last weekend and were involved in some very entertaining matches.

The u10s Blacks came away with a positive result against Binfield Pumas. Blacks stepped up their play in the second quarter and were passing the ball around with ease. This led to a great chance for the Blacks but the Binfield keeper pulled off a great save.

The resulting corner was taken by new boy Harrison and leading scorer Jake was in the right place at the right time to poke the ball home. Binfield clawed a goal back but the Magpies took control in the third quarter, moving the ball around the pitch with some incisive passing. Oli kneed the ball into the goal from a lovely cross by Joseph and Harrison also hit the back of the net.

The u10s Diamonds gave their best performance of the season in a cup tie away at Ascot United.

Sam quickly equalised Ascot's opener with a driving run and finish. Ascot took the initiative early in the second half before Lucas unleashed a rocket of a finish to score his first Diamonds goal. Sam, Josh, Lucas and Aiden were involved in some impressive passing moves and they were unlucky not to score one or two more goals. Player of the match (POTM) went to Jack for a solid and confident defensive performance.

The u10s Colts came out on top in a close but thrilling game away at Singh Sabha.

POTM was Jack for his energetic central midfield display and critical contributions both in defence and attack. He was able to convert four chances into goals.
